Visual Field Testing

A Visual field test measures the full vertical and horizontal range of what you can see peripherally, or your “side” vision. Using the Zeiss Humphrey, this test can evaluate the central and peripheral vision of each eye individually and determine if there are any blind spots (scotomas) in your vision.

Many brain and eye disorders can cause peripheral vision loss and other aberrations. Strokes and tumors and other brain abnormalities can affect your peripheral vison, and the shape and size and location of a visual defect can actually determine the location of the problem. 

Optic nerve damage caused by glaucoma creates a very specific visual field defect and Dr. DePoe uses this test to determine the severity of and monitor your glaucoma. It is completely painless and can take 15-45 minutes.
